My Hungry Little Caterpiller

On July 8th my little Alyssa Eloise turned ONE! I can't believe that a year has already flown by. As I thought about how to celebrate her birthday I was perusing Pintrest and found the cutest idea.
Using "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" as a birthday party theme.
I felt it was especially fitting since Alyssa is our very own very hungry caterpillar. We often joke that she might very well be out eating her 15 year old uncle, which is no small feat. She has always had a healthy appetite and a willingness to try almost anything new. I debated for a long time whether or not to have her little party on her birthday which happened to fall on a Sunday or celebrate a day early. When the few guests we'd decided to invite couldn't make it Saturday I said to heck with it and had it Sunday evening.

Don't you just love the caterpillar invitations?

The Caterpillar Cake

We started off the party by reading a giant version of the storybook. Then we had dinner of hot dogs, salad, and lots of fruits from the pages of the story book.
Fruit bar with printables from the book
We sang to Alyssa and while she was bothered by the candle...
she wasn't the least bit shy about digging in once the flame was out.

She had to get every last bit of yummy green frosting.

After everyone had enjoyed some cake and ice cream we went back to the other room to open presents. She seemed pretty excited about most of them, especially the baby dolls.

Party favors, again inspired by foods in the book.
Alyssa and her little party guests, such cute girls!
While I know it was such a very long time ago. I couldn't let this momentous occasion go unblogged.
The sorry remains of the caterpillar cake.
Just a few things about Alyssa at one year old (July 2012):
  • She has 4 teeth
  • She likes to cruise the furniture
  • We discovered that she loves dolls about a week before her birthday
  • She wears size 3 diapers, size 2 shoes, and size 9m-12m clothes
  • She can now do a traditional crawl
  • She can get up the stairs really fast
  • She is still trying to master going down the stairs
  • She will eat most anything you put in front of her
  • She will eat more than you ever thought a one year old could
  • She is seriously the happiest baby I have ever known

I love this party theme. It turned out very cute! I might have to do something like this for Nora this year.... we'll see. She will probably have her own ideas this birthday :)
